This is a proposal concept for a book introducing youngreaders to French folklore through a collection of twenty-six meticulously chosen legends in alphabetical order. This book is filled with illustrations, interesting information about the creature. A decorativemap on the endpapers shows the location of each reported creature.
For this concept I made some preliminary research on some creatures from all over France that would be a fit for this book in addition to some creature design and layout sketches, and finally an example of how a finished spread could look like.

Every spread would have the same layout and general composition, but the frame, drop cap and other small details would be tailored to the creature featured.
While I want the main illustration to stay more modern as to keep it relevant for children, the ornamental details are directly inspired by old illuminated manuscripts.
